HISTORICAL FACTS There are two legends that say that was it was founded either by the greek religious group called Teatini and they then named the town Teate. Or some researcher speculate that it was founded by Hercules 53 years before Troy capture and that is 1250 before Christ. It was destroyed by Charles the great, then built again by the Normen with large palaces and monuments that are still standing. During the Roman empire it was a municipium , that is it worked as a city hall for the local area. With the fall of the Roman empire the town declined in importance, and was destroyed like many other towns that were unprotected. It then was occupied by many other families, during the feudal times, such as the duke of Spoleto, and the Aragonese family.
