Elevation: 280 meters Population: 3,550 Scerni is a small town in the vicinities of Vasto. HISTORICAL FACTSThis town has definitely a medieval origin. It is eveident on the structure of the streets of the historical city center. The first mention of the town was in 883, when “Castellum Sarnem” was donated to to the Monastery of Santo Stefano in Rivo Maris. It stayed under the jurisdiction until the 15th century when the count of Santo Stefano of Carrara made the abbey go bankrupt. At that point the D’Avalos family of Vasto took over until the feudal times were abolished. Many archaeological findings, from pre roman times, were recovered such as the head of a statue of Jove and a bronze statue of Hercules.
